What’s the Difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org?

The main difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org is who is hosting your website. With WordPress.com, they take care of hosting and you just select a premade theme from their collection. While WordPress.com is free to setup, you can upgrade your account to get a custom domain name, use one of their premium themes or upload videos. WordPress.com is similar to a website builder in that you do not have to be tech-savvy to create your own website. WordPress.com does not allow you to upload your own custom theme or plugins, modify the PHP code. You are limited to what you can customize and you cannot create an eCommerce or membership website. With WordPress.org, you can customize a premade theme and / or plugins or build a WordPress website from scratch. Using a downloaded version from WordPress.org gives you unlimited flexibility and control. However all of that power comes tremendous responsibility so you will need so you will need to purchase hosting, know enough about CSS and HTML to install and modify your WordPress theme, perform software updates to keep your website secure and maintain backups. Pretty awesome, right? That is why we specialize in creating custom WordPress websites.
